Meta-Studies of Computing and Information Science

Perhaps the most obvious areas of intersection between Philosophy and Computing are those that involve metaphysical, epistemological, or ethical perspectives on Computing itself, or on aspects of Information Science that have been opened up by the ready availability of computers. Here the link between Philosophy and Computing is very clear, and the range of possible references vast. So this page is confined to a modest number of links – mostly taken from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy – that can help to give a flavour of these interface areas, including also some connected to the History of Science, which is so intimately linked to its Philosophy.

Note that many of these links are to be found also in the Links pages, categorised under the relevant topics. Here they are collected together to give a convenient overview of the range of topics associated with the relevant philosophical meta-studies.
